The Long Beach Small Business Development Center teams up with Yelp and the US Patent and Trademark Office to offer two free seminars.
On October 11, John Carroll, Yelp’s Manager of Local Business Outreach, will help small business owners explore the free tools available with Yelp’s business listings. With millions of users searching daily for new products, services, and, of course, places to eat, Yelp can be a powerful and effective tool for small business owners.
- Understand how to claim and develop a business listing
- Experience the advantages of Yelp for Business Owners mobile app
- Learn tips to engage with Yelpers
- Gain insight to maximize your Yelp Business Page
Carroll will demonstrate the Yelp for Business Owners mobile app, help business owners claim and develop their listings, provide tips on how to engage with Yelpers, and answer questions about how small business owners can maximize their Yelp Business Page.
Jeffrey Siew and Jason Lott, the US Patent and Trademark Office’s (USPTO) Attorney Advisors for Trademark Educational Outreach, work to educate small business owners on trademark fundamentals. Intellectual property protects more than just a business idea: it protects the future of the business. Most small business owners, however, haven’t taken the steps necessary to protect their business’ key assets.
- Further understand the reason business owners need patents and trademarks
- Know if an attorney is necessary for your needs
- Discover the steps to properly file necessary paperwork
- Obtain proper search techniques
- Gather answers to steer clear of legal troubles
Siew and Lott’s October 13 workshop provides a basic outline of how patents and trademarks work, how to properly file the necessary paperwork, and how to avoid legal troubles before they happen. Siew will also cover proper search techniques, whether an attorney is necessary, and what may happen if a trademark is challenged.
With the right tools and the correct information, small business owners can grow their business, while protecting themselves and their investment. The Long Beach SBDC is here to help them do both.
