As a business owner in the United States, you may well be required to report what is called Beneficial Ownership Information (“BOI”) about your business to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FINCEN). This is due to Congress passing a law in 2021 called the “Corporate Transparency Act,” in an effort to make it harder for bad actors to hide their ill-gotten gains through shell companies or other questionable ownership structures.
To better understand “BOI” and whether or not you should be reporting Beneficial Ownership Information to the Financial Crimes Network, we invite you to join SBDC business advisor Mike DeDonato in this 90-minute workshop. Mike will address the following topics, and more:
- The rationale and importance of the legislation
- Who must file
- Information to be filed
- Timeframes for filing (when should you file?)
- Walkthrough (Step by step explanation of how to file online)
- Penalties for failure to file in a timely manner
